It seems ‘pollution’ is the latest buzzword in beauty, as well as having to worry about lines, wrinkles, sagging, sun damage and dullness, everyone is now obsessing about pollution and the damaging effects it has on our skin. But the good news is there’s a whole new range of products to help protect our skin from the dirt, grime and chemicals in the air.

Cleansing properly is a great starting point, which is why many brands have been bringing out double cleansing systems. Double cleansing is exactly what you think, cleansing the skin, twice. So you’d use two different formulas, generally an oil based one and a cream based one, to ensure skin is completely free from all makeup and dirt. Using products with added antioxidants will also help rid your skin from pollution, try an overnight treatment, oil or facemask with ingredients proven to detoxify such as chia, green tea or microgreens. Finally moisture is key as this can form a barrier to pollution. Make sure skin is fully hydrated by using moisturiser morning and night on fully cleansed skin and using a hydrating mist during the day.
