After being absent from the music scene since 2012, a short snippet of Adele singing a new tune plays out during an X Factor break

There was a bit of an unexpected shock during The X Factor last night but for once it had nothing to do with the Six Chair Challenge…

Instead it was none other than Adele who got the nation talking thanks to a mysterious clip of what appears to be new music *squeal*!

Adele is coming back!

A 30-second snippet played during an ad break of X Factor whilst a black screen with the lyrics on was shown on screen.

The voice sounded very much like Adele’s unmistakeable tones and it might have only been the briefest of clips but boy was it emotional.

The lyrics were: ‘Hello/It’s me/I was wondering if after all these years you’d like to meet/To go over everything.

‘They say that time’s supposed to heal ya/But I ain’t done much healing…’

Totes emosh, right? Adele, 27, hasn’t yet commented on the excitement despite the fact that pretty much EVERYONE else is talking about it – c’mon Adele, tell us more!

But the band One Republic – whose frontman Ryan Tedder has worked with Adele – appeared to confirm that the voice belonged to the Someone Like You singer when they Tweeted:

It comes amid rumours that Adele’s long-awaited third album could be due out next month – we can hardly wait!

Apparently a lot of other people feel the same if the internet’s reaction to Adele’s shock comeback is anything to go by.

The British star’s name soon started trending after the clip was played out and most fans were totally stunned by it…

And it might have only been a very short snippet but it’s already got listeners feeling all emotional…

Even The X Factor crew were taken by surprise, it seems. Judge Nick Grimshaw certainly seemed excited about it…

Now we’re left with several questions that need answering – what is this song? When is the album out? Adele do you realise what pandemonium you’ve caused?!
