Twilight's Robert Pattinson hopes to play Jeff Buckley next

Twilight hunk Robert Pattinson wants to play tragic folk star Jeff Buckley in a new film.

The 24-year-old actor is said to be desperate to play his pop hero, who drowned in the Memphis River in Tennessee in 1997, aged just 30.

Rob is obsessed with this project and is doing everything he can to land the part,’ says an insider.

‘…it could be the film that makes him an Oscar contender.’

The Brit teen idol is thought to be up against hot competitiion for the coveted role, including 127 Hours actor James Franco.

But music-loving Rob, who penned songs for the Twilight films, hopefully stands a good chance  – Jeff Buckley‘s mum is even a fan.

Robert is a fine young actor,’ Mary Guibert tells the Sunday Express.

‘I’m flattered he’s been linked to the project.’
