The texts - allegedly between Amber and a member of Johnny's team - include the message: 'When I told him he kicked you, he cried'
The troubling tale of Amber Heard and Johnny Depp‘s split has taken a new twist, after texts allegedly exchanged between the actress and a member of Johnny’s team surfaced.
The messages, if genuine, indicate that the alleged abuse that Amber has claimed she suffered at the hands of Johnny dates back as far as 2014. Johnny denies abusing her.
Screenshots obtained by US magazine Entertainment Tonight – allegedly from Amber’s phone – show a conversation with ‘Stephen’, believed to be Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny’s assistant Stephen Deuters.
They start with Stephen apologising on behalf of a man – thought to be Johnny – following one of the alleged incidents of abuse.
‘Think he’s just texted you. He’s incredibly apologetic and knows that he has done wrong. He wants to get better now. He’s been very explicit about that this morning. Feel like we’re at a critical juncture,’ Stephen writes.
The response – allegedly from The Danish Girl actor Amber – reads: ‘Yes but I don’t know how to be around him after what he did to me yesterday.
‘I don’t know if I can stay with him.’
Stephen then reveals: ‘He wants to see you so much. He’s distraught.’
The woman then texts back: ‘Look, he things ‘he doesn’t deserve this’. Obviously he has no idea what he did or to the extent that he did it. If someone was truly honest with him about how bad it really was, he’d be appalled.
She continues: ‘And definitely wouldn’t say to me that he doesn’t deserve it. I’m sad that he doesn’t have a better way to really know the severity of his actions yesterday. Unfortunately for me, I remember in full detail everything that happened.’
Stephen then says the man, allegedly Johnny, had to be told about kicking the woman – news which made him cry.
He wrote: ‘He was appalled. When I told him he kicked you, he cried. It was disgusting. And he knows it.’
‘He’s a little lost boy. And needs all the help he can get. He is so very sorry, as he should be.’
But in the response, the recipient – allegedly Amber – names other incidents of alleged abuse.
‘He’s done this many times before. Tokyo, the island, London (remember that!?), and I always star. Always believe he’s going to get better… And then every 3 or so month, I’m in the exact same position.’
Steven has since claimed that the texts have been doctored, and pointed out that they do not show a date.
He told TMZ that, to his knowledge, there have been ‘no acts of abuse towards Amber at the hands of Johnny’ and that ‘Johnny has never been violent toward anyone he knows’.
Johnny and Amber’s split after just over a year of marriage was revealed one week ago when Amber filed for divorce citing ‘irreconcilable differences’.
A judge then granted a restraining order against Johnny ordering him to stay away from his wife based on claims made by Amber that he had struck her with an iPhone days earlier.
A statement made by Amber also alleged other incidents of abuse, stating: ‘During the entirety of our relationship, Johnny has been verbally and physically abusive to me.
‘I endured excessive emotional, verbal and physical abuse from Johnny, which has included angry, hostile, humiliating and threatening assaults to me whenever I questioned his authority or disagreed with him.”
Lawyers acting on Johnny’s behalf responded with a document that claimed: ‘Amber is attempting to secure a premature financial resolution by alleging abuse.’
