X Factor's Anton Stephans makes a shock drugs confession

X Factor contestant Anton Stephans has confessed his eight-year-long struggle with drugs in an emotional interview with The Sun. ‘I was hurting and when you are young it’s easy to be seduced,’ he said, ‘I was pushing the self-destruct button.’

The former backing singer wowed with his perfomance of Luther Vandross’ ‘A House Is Not A Home’ last night, securing his place in the X Factor following the ‘Six Chair Challenge’. He faced a slight obstacle when Simon Cowell criticised the ‘weird faces’ Anton made while he sang, but got a laugh from the audience when he retorted: ‘If you can’t afford [Botox], your face moves.’ Thankfully, Simon saw the funny side!

Despite Anton’s lighthearted sense of humour, it hasn’t always been easy for him. Adopted at the age of seven, he admits that he had a difficult relationship with his biological family – although it has improved since his appearance on the X Factor show.

His shock confession comes from an urge to prevent other children having to go through the same experience he did – before he started on the show, Anton counselled children on the dangers of drugs. ‘Taking drugs won’t make anyone happier,’ he said, calling them a ‘lie’.

It’s great to see how much the X Factor hopeful, who has had a ‘wonderful life’, has moved on. We wish him every success for the show!
