One woman died in the four-car crash on California’s Pacific Coast Highway in February, whilst seven others were left injured.

Caitlyn – who was driving one of the vehicles involved in the smash under her former identity as Bruce Jenner – now faces charges of misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter.

Speaking to American TV journalist Matt Lauer as part of a pre-recorded interview on Today, Caitlyn confessed that being sentenced to time in a men’s prison would be the ‘worst case scenario.’

‘The media wants that picture, don’t they?’ she said. ‘That is the worst case scenario.’

‘I will say the men’s county jail, it is an enormous problem that they would put trans women in a men’s county jail.’

Caitlyn also revealed that her recollection of the incident is hazy, saying: ‘I remember it very little, I remember it happening and that’s about it.’

Admitting she couldn’t say more due to legal reasons, she added: ‘A tragedy like this, you’ll never get over it. You just learn to live with it the best you possibly can.’

She also strongly denied claims she was speeding at the time of the fatal crash, insisting: ‘I was under the speed limit, I was going 46 in a 50 – my air bag didn’t even go off.’

Having won praise from the transgender community for her brave transition from Bruce to Caitlyn, the reality star also opened up about her experience so far.

‘I think about my life and where I’m at in my life right now and what a tremendous experience this,’ she said.

‘Hardly nobody gets to live two genders in their lives. Everybody wonders, ‘Oh, what’s it like to be coming from the other side? You know, their thinking, the way they act, everything?’

‘And here I have the opportunity to do that. And to be honest with you, everything’s so new and fun. From that standpoint, it’s been great.’

She added: ‘Theres nothing better in life than to wake up in the morning, look in the mirror and be comfortable with yourself and who you are.’
