I just want to help end poverty, says star
She may be a UN ambassador, but Angelina Jolie doesn’t want to be seen as the Mother Teresa of Hollywood.
The actress says her active involvement in charity work is something she ‘had to do’ and can’t understand why more stars don’t try to make a difference.
‘It became clear to me that I was an incredibly privileged Hollywood movie star and I had to do something against the screaming injustice on this planet,’ she tells the News Of The World.
‘I quite simply want to help where there is poverty and destitution. Am I the only one who thinks and acts like that?’
The 31-year-old also insists that celebrities should be able to say and do what they want without having to explain their actions.
‘People in the public eye should be allowed to speak and act freely, without having to justify themselves every step of the way,’ she says.
