Benedict wants to branch out

Benedict Cumberbatch plays posh detective Sherlock Holmes in the BBC series Sherlock and aristocrat Christopher Tietjens in new TV drama Parade’s End.

Both are period dramas but the actor is hoping to be cast in a slightly different role for his next project so he can have a laugh.

‘I’d love to do a slacker comedy where I’m just getting stoned,’ says Benedict, 36.

Benedict has already made the transition from TV actor to movie star – he plays baddie Khan in the new Star Trek flick and will appear opposite Brad Pitt in drama Twelve Years A Slave next year.

He has dreams of one day becoming as successful in the film industry as Brad, 48.

Brad Pitt, Clooney – they’re in a really privileged position where they are the men who get film screen net [a share of box office receipts], and there are about five people in the world who can do that,’ Benedict tells Independent Radar.

‘They’re great people to emulate as a business model.’
