Cheryl's world was destroyed when she discovered Ashley had betrayed her
In her frank autobiography Cheryl: My Story, the singer admits that after the shock in January 2008 she relied on drugs as she struggled to cope.
‘Looking back, I was out of my head on tranquilisers,’ she admits.
‘I crashed out for two full days.’
After time to think, Cheryl says she forgave Ashley – on three conditions: he stop drinking and partying with footballers and cut ties with his agent, adding: ‘If you ever disrespect me like this again, it’s all over.’
Then in January 2010 four more girls came forward.
Cheryl, 29, knew then that their relationship was over, but she still begged for an explanation.
‘I sobbed: “There must have been something.
‘”You have to tell me.”
‘”You’ve done nothing wrong,” he said. “It’s not you,”‘ she reveals.
