Dougie says he went to a 'dark' place last year

Dougie Poynter has revealed that he tried to kill himself in a fume-filled car while struggling with depression last February.

The McFly guitarist opens up about his battle with drink and drug addictions in the band’s new autobiography Unsaid Things… Our Story.

‘It’s always good to reflect on that sort of stuff. I’m in a really, really good place now. It is quite easy to forget,’ says Dougie, 24.

‘It’s quite therapeutic to go back, quite scary and a bit of an eye opener into how dark it can get if you take your foot off the gas and stop looking after yourself.’

After his suicide bid, Dougie spent over a month recovering in The Priory before flying to Australia to take part in last year’s series of I’m A Celebrity.

He went on to win the show and has since been busy putting together McFly‘s new compilation album Memory Lane.

‘We’re all in good places now,’ band mate Tom Fletcher, 27, tells Alan Carr on his Channel 4 show.

Dougie has sorted himself out and I am married.’
