Actress says she rebelled in her youth
Gillian Anderson has revealed that she had a lesbian fling as a teenager.
The actress, who starred in cult TV show The X Files as FBI agent Dana Scully, began exploring her sexuality after her family moved from London to a small town in America when she was 11.
‘I was in a relationship with a girl for a long time when I was in high school,’ says Gillian, 43.
‘If I had thought I was 100 per cent gay, would it have been a different experience for me?
‘Would it have been a bigger deal if shame had been attached to it and all those things that become huge life-altering issues for youngsters in that situation?
‘It’s possible that my attitude around it came, on some level, from knowing that I still liked boys.’
Gillian was once voted World’s Sexiest Woman and has always had a huge gay following.
Now loved-up with partner Mark Griffiths, the mum-of-three admits her wild teenage years didn’t sit well with the residents of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
‘Based on how I chose to look, dress, behave,’ she tells Out magazine, ‘you know, the relationships I was in at the time were freaking people out.’
