The Duchess meets our Olympians and Paralympians

Kate Middleton joined the Queen at Buckingham Palace last night to honour Team GB Olympic and Paralympic stars.

The Duchess spent time chatting to the women’s hockey team at the reception, which was held to thank athletes for their successes during London 2012.

She also met equestrian star Lee Pearson and gold medal-winning rowers Heather Stanning and Helen Glover.

Other guests at the event included teen swimmer Ellie Simmonds, boxer Nicola Adams and double bronze medallist Rebecca Adlington.

Kate, 30, looked stunning in a black midi with a sophisticated flower pattern and sheer elbow-length sleeves.

The sporty royal revealed to Paralympian Lee, 38, that she’s learning to ride horses herself – despite speculation that she’s mildly allergic to the animals.

‘I had a good chat with her,’ says Lee.

‘I said if you ever want a dressage lesson come up to Staffordshire.’
