The Duchess of Cambridge visited The Art Room

Kate Middleton‘s new puppy is called  Lupo – the Italian word for wolf.

The black cocker spaniel was chosen as a pet by the Duchess of Cambridge and husband Prince William, 29, just before Christmas, but his name was kept private – until now.

‘There’s no other reason for the name than that the couple liked it,’ a spokesman at St James’s Palace tells the Daily Mail.

The Duchess was visiting Rose Hill Primary School as royal patron of charity The Art Room when she let the secret slip.

Abubakr Hussain, 7, gave Kate, 30, a stuffed dog, which some of the pupils cuddle for ‘comfort’ in their art classes, and Kate was told it didn’t have a name.

‘I’ll call it Lupo after my dog,’ she decided.
