The singer denied the allegations on Twitter in August

Katherine Jenkins says she took to Twitter to deny having an affair with David Beckham in August because she’d been getting death threats over the ridiculous claims.

The opera singer was ridiculed on the site when she wrote that she ‘absolutely denied’ the ‘hurtful and untrue’ allegations – because most people hadn’t heard them.

‘From my point of view, I was actually getting months of people saying [the rumours] to me on Twitter and calling my friends and asking if it was true,’ says Katherine, 32.

‘It went from being now and again to constant abuse. I was getting death threats before I spoke about it. You wouldn’t believe how crazy and out of control it was getting.’

The rumours surrounding Katherine and David, 37, had been reported in an Australian gossip magazine but hadn’t circulated in the UK.

Katherine was adamant that she didn’t want people to assume she was the type of woman to cheat with a married man.

‘I wanted to put it right. It couldn’t have been more wrong,’ says Katherine.

‘I couldn’t have people thinking such things of me.’
