Lady Gaga has created an anti-bullying foundation with her mum to help children who are going through the same ‘mean and cruel’ experience as she did as a teenager.

Gaga, 25, and mum Cynthia Germanotta, 57, spoke out about the singer’s troubled childhood at Harvard University, where they launched the Born This Way Foundation.

‘Growing up she faced many struggles because of her individuality and, as a result, often experienced meanness and cruelty,’ says Cynthia.

‘She’s talked very publicly about these and other struggles in a real and personal way and people have responded to that message.’

Last year, Gaga – who was called fat by school bullies and ridiculed for her ‘big nose’ – dedicated a performance to gay 14-year-old Jamey Rodemeyer, who killed himself after being taunted.

She says she’s determined to use her position in the spotlight to campaign against bullies and has already donated £750,000 of her own money to the foundation.

‘I believe that human kind, as a whole, can change the world,’ says Gaga.

‘If you have revolutionary potential, you must make the world a better place and use it.’
