The band make an appearance on Musique Plus in Montreal

Thousands of One Direction fans arrived to catch a glimpse of their favourite boy band in Montreal this week.

Around 300 admirers camped out in temperatures as low as -10°C for up to 35 hours to see their idols – with 14 needing medical treatment as a result.

Streets had to be closed to cope with the crowds after another 2,000 admirers joined the gathering during the day.

Louis Tomlinson, 20, Zayn Malik, 19, plus Harry Styles, Niall Horan and Liam Payne, all 18, travelled up to Canada shortly after landing a No 1 with their debut album Up All Night in the States.

They headed to Montreal for an appearance on Musique Plus before moving on to Toronto.

‘What’s the craic toronto, can’t get out of the leaba! Really like it here in canada ,good vibe everywhere,’ Tweeted Niall.
