Tara reassured the Duchess of Cambridge during her break-up from William in 2007

Socialite Tara Palmer-Tomkinson says she supported Kate Middleton through her short break-up from Prince William in 2007.

Tara, 40, struck up a friendship with the Duchess of Cambridge, 30, at Swiss ski resort Klosters in the early days of her relationship with 29-year old Wills and was reassuring when the couple separated for a few months.

‘I always thought she and William were so good together,’ says Tara.

‘We have had lots of fun nights in relaxed situations and when they briefly split up I said to her: “He’ll be back, don’t worry”.

‘She and her sister Pippa came to my brother’s book launch during the split and people were kind of horrible to her, but I knew William would be back as soon as he realised what he was missing out on.’

Tara attended the reconciled couple’s wedding at Westminster Abbey last April and has nothing but praise for the way Kate has handled becoming a member of the Royal Family.

‘I think she has done something amazing – I am really proud of her,’ Tara tells You.

‘Whenever I see her on the cover of another magazine I smile. She reminds me of his mother – something about her eyes.’
