Ryan Thomas was arrested and spent the night in a prison cell after a drunken brawl
Uh oh – it looks like Coronation Street’s Ryan Thomas – who plays Jason Grimshaw on the show – was partied too hard over the weekend, taking part in a drunken brawl which left him spending a night in a police cell.
The Coronation Street heartthrob was arrested at 1:09am yesterday morning for being ‘drunk and disorderly’, along with two other men, and spent the night at Kendal Police Station, Cumbria Police have confirmed. The row broke out at the Wheelhouse Club and Lounge, located in the Lake District’s Bowness-on-Windermere.
The incident follows the shock news this month that Ryan Thomas, the one-time winner of British Rear of the Year, will be leaving Coronation Street next year, after 16 years on the show. A statement from Coronation Street producer Stuart Blackburn said: ‘Ryan has been an important part of Coronation Street for 15 years. We wish him every success when he moves on next year and we appreciate his desire to try new things. In the coming months he’ll be at the heart of a massive story, affecting not just his family but the Websters and the Windasses too which will take us well into 2016.’ Going out with a bang, then!
Ryan’s character Jason Grimshaw is no stranger to the odd brawl on the show too, most recently getting beaten up by Callum Logan and his friends and later retaliating by punching him. We can only hope that Ryan’s ‘drunk and disorderly’ behaviour is a one-off, and not a sign of the star – who filed for bankruptcy in 2013 – having difficulties with his personal life. Our fingers are crossed that the star, who is looking to move on to new projects after Coronation Street, can move on from this.
