Danniella Westbrook stayed clean for 12 years before relapsing onto drugs

Her hugely publicised battle against drug addiction saw her ditch her partying ways a decade ago, but it seems Danniella Westbrook has hit rock bottom again, having been axed from Hollyoaks before filming a single scene. The 41-year-old mum of two was due to make a comeback as Jacqui McQueen’s prison pal Trudy Ryan for an eight- episode run, but the soap’s bosses said last week they had ‘no choice’ but to let her go, explaining: ‘Danniella breached her contract and it was terminated.’

The actress has revealed her volatile relationship with ex-fiancé Tom Richards, 25, caused her to relapse on drugs after being clean for 12 years and left her wanting to kill herself with cocaine binges. She said: ‘I’m a fighter but there are only so many fights you can win. I felt so ashamed about becoming addicted again.’

She also claims it was her choice not to return to Hollyoaks as cage fighter Tom has a training camp near to where she’d be staying in Liverpool and she ‘did not feel she’d be safe’. However, Tom insists he’s based in London.

Last month she appeared on This Morning and her ‘car crash’ appearance send Twitter into a frenzy.

Speaking to Speaking to Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford, she opened up about her recent relapse but said: ‘Don’t be worried about me, I am not fragile. I’m sick of being talked about as a drug addict and this, that and the other.’

Some likened the shocking footage to Kerry Katona‘s now infamous appearance on the ITV show back in 2008, during which a combination of drugs and heavy medication caused her to behave irratically.

Although the star recieved a negative reaction to her chat on the ITV show, Danniella took to her own social networking page afterwards and seemed pleased with her performance.

She wrote: ‘Staying strong today & putting the ghost & rumours to an end . For my babies & 4 the special friends who helped me.’

Keep staying strong, Danniella!
