The presenter is said to be 'overcome with grief'
Zoe Ball has cancelled a scheduled presenting gig this weekend following the sudden death of her boyfriend Billy Yates.
The 46-year-old had been due to do her afternoon show on Radio 2 as normal, according to this week’s Radio Times, but the radio station’s website now lists Kate Thornton as the stand-in host.
Earlier this week Zoe had Tweeted about the programme when she spoke of how the writers of new movie Mindhorn would be making an appearance this coming weekend.
Radio 2 has since confirmed to Now that Kate will take over on this occasion though, whilst Suzi Perry will front the following weekend’s show – a change that had been planned previously.
It comes shortly after the shock news that Zoe’s partner has been found dead at his flat in London.
Antiques Roadshow cameraman Billy, 40, was discovered on Thursday night and it’s said to have left Zoe – who had started dating Billy following her split from husband Norman Cook last year – utterly distraught.
‘Zoe is overcome with grief,’ a friend tells The Sun. ‘She is completely and utterly devastated.
‘Billy had made her happy again after the most horrendous year when her marriage broke down.
‘This was completely out of the blue. She had no feeling that this was coming and is in total shock.’
The pal adds that Zoe will ‘need a lot of time to grieve’ as she had ‘finally found happiness’ with Billy.
Metropolitan Police confirmed in a statement: ‘Police were called to a residential address in Putney, South London, at 18.40 on Thursday 4th May to reports of a man found deceased.
‘Officers attended alongside staff from the London Ambulance Service, and a man believed to be aged 40 was pronounced dead at the scene.
‘The circumstances are not being treated as suspicious, and the coroner has been informed.’
Zoe has yet to publicly speak about the tragedy but hinted at her devastation when she posted an image of a flower on Instagram on Friday morning and wrote: ‘My sweet love X’
Our thoughts are with Billy’s loved ones at this difficult time.
