It's a wedding video that could leave the most stone-hearted of people in tears - Kelly-Marie Stewart walked down the aisle on her wedding day with nothing but an arm for support. WOW, just wow!
At just age 21, Kelly-Marie Stewart was paralysed from the waist down and was told she would probably never walk again. Now, age 31, she can say that she has defied the odds and walked down the aisle at her wedding to greet her hubby James Lovelady. Amazing!
The Hollyoaks star looked stunning in her classic white wedding dress, as she held onto her father on what was undoubtedly the best day of her life. Then what’s even more amazing is she then walked back down the aisle on her hubby’s arm!
The mum-of-one got married last month at Peckforton Castle in Cheshire.
After noticing severe pins and needles in her feet in 2005, Kelly-Marie was sent to hospital for tests. Two days later she was paralysed from the waist down and was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome.
She became the first disabled actress to play a main part on on the Chester-based soap as Hayley Ramsey.
Guillain-Barre Syndrome is a very rare disease which effects the nervous system, causing it to attack the spine. However, some patients who have contracted the syndrome are able to recover some movement and feeling over time, which is what has happened to Kelly-Marie.
The newlywed admitted that she went through months of gruelling neurological physiotherapy to build enough strength to walk down the aisle, and even confessed that she wasn’t nervous about it beforehand!
