The singer piled on the pounds during his hiatus
Ed Sheeran has revealed that he’s secretly been battling with his weight after gaining 3st.
The singer ended up piling on the pounds when he went on hiatus 12 months ago and put it down to the fact that he was no longer working it off on stage.
‘I didn’t realise how active I was on tour,’ says Ed, 25. ‘My diet was pizza and beer, but because I was doing two hours a night I was really in shape.
‘I stopped touring and carried on my diet of pizza and beer. Suddenly I didn’t fit in anything.
‘I was like, “All my clothes have shrunk”.’
Oh no! Now though Ed is looking much slimmer, having shed an impressive 3.5st by embarking on an intense exercise regime supported by his hockey star girlfriend Cherry Seaborn.
He tells Total Access on Signal 1 radio: ’I did ten minutes a day without fail – intervals of 30 seconds sprinting and 30 jogging.
‘The key is to not miss a day, so you don’t have to do an hour.’
It certainly seems to have paid off for Ed, who made his comeback last week by releasing new singles Shape Of You and Castle On The Hill.
Both tunes quickly gained record plays on Spotify within 24 hours and are set to dominate the charts by going in at Nos 1 and 2. Now THAT’S the way to return after a year away!
Ed’s thrilled with the reaction to his new material, telling his Twitter fans over the weekend: ‘truly overwhelmed with the reaction to these new songs, I’ve never had anything like this, thank you for all your wonderful messages x’
It comes after he spent much of his hiatus travelling the world and staying away from social media.
Now he’s back with brand new music AND a new body to boot – good work, Ed!
