Davina will present Channel 4's Stand Up To Cancer show this Friday

Former Big Brother presenter Davina McCall was heartbroken when her half-sister Caroline Baday lost her battle against cancer in August.

Davina and her husband Matthew Robertson were at 50-year-old Caroline‘s bedside as she passed away just 7 weeks after being diagnosed with the disease.

‘I heard her breathing getting shallower. Matthew held one hand and I held the other,’ recalls Davina, 45.

Caroline‘s iPod had been on all day and a really lovely, sad Nina Simone song came on.’

Caroline – who was Davina‘s mum Florence‘s daughter from her first marriage – lived in Paris with their mother during her childhood years while Davina moved to the UK to live with her father.

They became close during Davina‘s visits to France and supported each other through Florence‘s struggle with alcoholism.

‘I thought it was going to be a violent, awful end but she just slipped away and it was so peaceful,’ Davina tells the Sunday Mirror.

‘It was the saddest thing I have ever been through but it was the best it could have been.’

Davina presents Channel 4‘s Stand Up To Cancer on Friday at 7.30pm.
