Viewers of Hollyoaks have learned that Stephanie Davis has had her contract terminated
The 22-year-old actress, who plays Sinead O’Connor, is popular with many viewers but has been suddenly dropped just months after signing a new contract.
No reason has been given for the shock decision as of yet, with Hollyoaks saying in a statement: ‘Stephanie Davis will no longer be filming Hollyoaks. Her contract has been terminated with immediate effect.’
It means that Sinead will either have to be written out or recast as Stephanie will not film any further scenes.
Fans have reacted with surprise to the actress’s sudden exit on Twitter and many have questioned what the potential reason behind it could be.
‘Not that I give a crap about #Hollyoaks, but what did Stephanie Davis do to be axed from the show with immediate effect?’ one asked.
Another wrote: ‘Wow #Hollyoaks let Stephanie Davis go, wonder what happen. Loved her as Sinead.’
There’s been no word from Stephanie about why her contract has been terminated. It comes just months after she signed a new contract to continue playing Sinead for another year.
‘I’m really happy. I’ve been in the show since I was 16 and I’m 22 now. I’ve kind of grown up here, which has been mental,’ she said at the time.
Stephanie joined the soap in 2010 and has often impressed with her portrayal of Sinead. In fact just last year she was nominated for the Best Actress and Best Dramatic Performance categories at the British Soap Awards.
Before starring in the show she came to fame as a contestant on the BBC talent show Over The Rainbow, in which she narrowly missed out on playing Dorothy in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s production of The Wizard Of Oz.
Representatives for Stephanie haven’t commented on her Hollyoaks exit.
