Tom Bleasby’s shock exit from The X Factor has prompted both fans and celebrities airing their views on Twitter

Tom Bleasby shocked everyone by announcing that he’d quit The X Factor yesterday and it’s caused a HUGE reaction on Twitter – both positive and negative.

The 19-year-old singer decided to withdraw from the competition despite making it through the gruelling Six Chair Challenge to earn a place in mentor Nick Grimshaw’s final line-up for judges’ houses and has said it was due to ‘personal reasons’.

Was Jessie J the reason Tom Bleasby quit X Factor?

Nick was quick to show his support on social media, posting:

Others involved in The X Factor have got behind Tom too, including fellow contestant Che Chesterman.

Nick nearly sent Tom home during the Six Chair Challenge but, due to his popularity with the audience, decided to bring him back.

The youngster’s fan base clearly extends to the viewers as many have expressed their sadness about his departure from the show on social media.

‘Awww no dont you have a lovely voice xx,’ one admirer pleaded.

Another wrote: ‘Sorry to hear that Tom you were my favourite! Good luck hope it won’t be the last we hear from you.’

Other viewers of The X Factor haven’t reacted so well despite Tom issuing a statement saying the following: ‘I’ve never took to live performing very well. I’m still discovering myself and in the competition, there are some amazing singers and I feel like I need more time to get better myself, as I don’t feel like I’m strong enough.

‘Moving forward, without being 100% would have been selfish on my part because I would have stopped someone else who was at 100% vocally from going further in the competition. Hopefully given time, I could get there with more time to grow artistically and vocally.’

Some Twitter users jumped to conclusions clearly overlooking his statement:

‘youve stopped someone from getting a chance they could’ve actually cherished,’ one Twitter user posted.

An equally disappointed fan agreed: ‘You have wasted everyone’s time and effort and someone’s chance at the show, someone who would of aprieciated it!’

Ouch. But Tom clearly feels strongly that he’s done the right thing.

The singer hinted that he hadn’t enjoyed certain elements of The X Factor when the Six Chair Challenge was screened on Sunday, having Tweeted at the time:

Now many Twitter users are starting campaigns to get an eliminated contestant back to replace Tom, with many supporting Nathanael Landskroner in the hope he’ll be given a second chance.

Something tells us the fallout from this isn’t quite over yet in the world of social media!
