The Aussie actor was originally asked to play 007

Hugh Jackman says he is now ready to play James Bond – after turning down the role when he was too busy.

Hugh, 44, was playing Wolverine in X-Men at the time, and saw the part go instead to his good friend Daniel Craig.

The pair performed together in the Broadway show A Steady Rain in 2009.

‘At the time it was wrong for me, but when I saw Daniel in the movie I thought maybe I should have been more interested, because it was great,’ says Hugh.

‘But I am great mates with Daniel. When he was in Australia,  we caught up, and you know, no one could have played Bond better.’

And Hugh has a message for Daniel now.

‘The good thing about Daniel is he’s, what, 62 now, isn’t he?’ he tells The Sun.

‘He’s falling apart at the seams. So I just keep telling him, I’m ready, whenever you want to let him go, I’m ready.’
