Steps singer H wants to be a dad
Despite reaching the top of the charts thanks to a surprisingly successful reunion with his former bandmates, 2012 will go down as a year of heartbreak for Steps singer H – real name Ian Watkins.
Tragically, the British surrogate who was carrying his longed-for baby miscarried in May, just as H was embarking on a triumphant comeback tour with the band.
While the 36-year-old Welshman admits that the miscarriage has been the most devastating event of his life, it hasn’t put a stop to his desire to start a family with his long-term boyfriend, actor Craig Ryder.
‘It’s still very raw. But it’s something that my partner Craig and I will pursue,’ Ian tells Now’s Editor At Large Dan Wootton
‘It’s still part of our future.
‘I’m so glad about that. You know, there were points when we thought: “This isn’t meant to be.”
‘But we’re strong as a couple. When we talked about it with our support network, we realised how common miscarriage really is.
‘Hearing that made it easier and helped us through.’
Ian and Craig are now working directly with a surrogacy agency in America.
‘It’s working beautifully,’ says Ian. ‘The agency’s not just for gay men.
‘It’s for straight couples, lesbian couples and even single parents who are at that stage of their life but haven’t found a partner.’
Ian ‘H’ Watkins is the face of new MTV reality show The Valleys, broadcast in association with Now.
