Michelle Keegan admits she’d jump at the chance to do Doctor Who as bookies tip her to step into the TARDIS

Michelle Keegan had been keeping schtum about those Doctor Who rumours since she was first linked with the role of his new assistant last month but now she’s broken her silence – and what she’s said is pretty exciting.

The 28-year-old actress – who recently became the bookies’ favourite to replace Jenna Coleman after she leaves the show this series – admits that she’d LOVE to star in the popular BBC drama and has always been into it.

Michelle Keegan and Mark Wright’s racy day out

‘I used to watch it as a kid with my dad,’ Michelle tells the Daily Star. ‘I still watch it now.

‘I would love to do it.’

Eek, how exciting is this?! We can totally see Michelle accompanying The Doctor on his adventures and here’s 6 reasons why we think she should be the show’s new assistant…

1. She’s a fan

Just like Peter Capaldi who plays The Doctor himself, Michelle has loved the show for many years which means she totally GETS it.

2. She’d rock all the outfits

The Doctor’s assistants often end up sporting garb from all different eras whilst they’re time travelling, ranging from Victorian frocks to modern-day clobber. Michelle Keegan is of course a bona fide fashionista, what with her own Lipsy range ’n all, so we think she’d nail the changing looks of the role.

3. She’d keep The Doctor on his toes

Something tells us that Michelle’s assistant would be more than capable of holding her own and would give The Doctor a run for his money when it comes to controlling the TARDIS.

4. She’s tough

Well, if her character was anything like Coronation Street’s Tina McIntyre then Michelle’s Doctor Who alter ego could easily take on the challenges of assistant life. And that’s very important because, let’s face it, it’s not the easiest task in the world when you’re faced with Daleks, Cybermen and tons of other baddies on a regular basis.

5. We’ve missed her from our TV screens

Michelle was last seen acting on telly in the BBC drama Ordinary Lies earlier this year so we’re definitely due some more Keegs on our screens.

6. She could go on to amazing things

Becoming Doctor Who’s assistant can be a fantastic launchpad for other opportunities. Previous stars like Karen Gillan and Billie Piper have gone on to big things ranging from Hollywood movies to epic TV shows, so who knows where it could take Michelle Keegan?
