Team Glita are no more and Strictly viewers are pretty upset about it

Anita Rani became the latest celebrity to bow out of Strictly Come Dancing last night and it proved quite emotional for all involved.

The 38-year-old presenter narrowly missed out on reaching the final with professional partner Gleb Savchenko after the judges chose to save Katie Derham and Anton Du Beke in the dance-off, despite Anita and Gleb actually scoring higher than the latter on Saturday night.

It came as a shock to many given team Glita’s impressively jam-packed routines – honestly, did you SEE that high-speed Salsa?

Exiting the competition has clearly left Anita feeling reflective about her Strictly journey.

The Countryfile host paid a highly emotional tribute to Gleb, 32, on Instagram last night, writing: ‘Thank you @glebsavchenkoofficial for teaching me to dance and pushing me to achieve things I never knew I could do.

‘Thank you also every single one of you who’ve voted for us. I’m sorry we didn’t push through to the final for you.

‘I’m a very lucky woman, I will always have my #strictly experience to treasure for life. And I will definitely KEEP DANCING! @bbcstrictly #teamGlita’

Awww, you’re making us well up, Anita! We’ll certainly miss seeing these two strut their stuff on the dance floor.

Who is Strictly’s Gleb Savchenko’s wife?

Anita’s moving words come after she joked about hard-working Gleb being a ‘slave driver’ following their exit on Sunday night’s results show. Oh, and she also mentioned that he’s ‘beautiful’ too (is he? We hadn’t noticed, honest…).

The feeling was mutual for Gleb too, who told Anita he’d ‘loved every day’ spent rehearsing with her throughout their Strictly experience.

Many viewers were shocked to see team Glita leave the competition and took to social media to air their opinions.

‘Really disappointed that the judges voted you off. You deserved a place in the final,’ one fan commented on Anita’s Instagram page.

Another wrote: ‘I have loved every single moment watching you dance on Strictly. You have been an absolute joy.’

True, dat. Now it’s time for the finalists Kellie Bright, Katie Derham, Georgia May Foote and Jay McGuiness to battle it out for that Glitter Ball trophy on Saturday night – eek!

The fact is, had all the people who are complaining about Katie and Anton getting to the final voted for Anita and Gleb, then they may not have been in the dance-off in the first place and would have been safe. It can’t be assumed that because the judges mark high they will be safe. The Public have to vote for their favourite or there is a chance they will leave.

How was Anita supposed to ‘improve’ in the dance off? They only had praise for her dancing and her performance. The only issue they had was that the dance didn’t have enough salsa content … how were she and Gleb meant to rectify that in the dance off? Also, why did they expect a traditional salsa when production gave them a song that was anything but traditional salsa? They should have appreciated that Gleb did a brilliant job with the music he was given, created a really complex routine that Anita had obviously spent a lot of time mastering, which really showed off her abilities.
Also, Katie’s ‘improvement’ was minor and still didn’t bring her anywhere near the level of Gleb and Anita. Still lots of gapping, weak core and I couldn’t see her feet through the smoke (as Anton himself joked about.) She wouldn’t have lasted 10 seconds of Anita and Gleb’s routine.

Just because they got the higher scores on Saturday, it still wasn’t enough to keep them out of dance off. Elimination is based on the dance off alone and Katie and Anton were the better couple
