Janet Jackson’s banished raunchy outfits, is ‘fascinated’ by her new Islamic lifestyle and has ‘limited’ contact with her family…
Pictured out in London with her husband Wissam Al Mana recently, a hand placed protectively on her blossoming baby bump, 50-year-old Janet Jackson looked virtually unrecognisable. Make-up-free and wearing full Islamic dress, she was a far cry from her days as one of the pop world’s biggest sex symbols.
Remember, this is the woman who set tongues wagging in 1993 when she posed topless on the cover of Rolling Stone with her then-husband René Elizondo Jr clasping her breasts from behind, next to the headline: ‘Janet Jackson, the joy of sex’.
Janet’s said to have adopted an entirely different lifestyle since marrying 41-year-old millionaire Wissam – known as Sam – in a secret 2012 ceremony. But just how much has her life changed in four years?
A religious fascination…
It seems that Sam’s faith has become a source of fascination for Janet and despite the fact she was raised as a Jehovah’s Witness, many unconfirmed reports claim she’s already converted to Islam.
In 2008, Janet explained: ‘I’d get up on Sunday mornings, go to the Kingdom Hall, go again on Thursday night and go to book study on Tuesdays because that was my mother’s routine.’ But sources say Janet has spent ‘a great deal of time’ studying Islam since marrying Sam and even claim she ‘feels more at home’ than ever before with her new faith.
Of course, with an Islamic lifestyle comes modesty, which is something Janet has already proven with her latest choice of outfits. But this could prove to be a struggle for someone whose biggest hits include titles like Nasty, Any Time, Any Place and All Nite (Don’t Stop).
In April , Janet postponed her sellout Unbreakable Tour to focus on starting a family with Sam. While ticket organisers have since insisted the dates will be honoured in 2017, her new low-key lifestyle has left some fans wondering what the shows will have in store for them.
No longer a family affair…
The Jackson family were once famous for their closeness, but it seems Janet’s new life has driven a wedge between them. Her sister La Toya, 60, has even claimed they had no idea Janet was planning to marry Sam, saying: ‘I didn’t know Jan was married until I heard about it through the media. You’d be surprised how you find out things through the media.’
A source said recently: ‘When she’s visiting Wissam’s family in the Middle East, Janet wears no make-up, no hair extensions and keeps to traditional Muslim clothing.’
Who is Wissam Al Mana?
The businessman is said to be worth a cool £820 million. An extremely private person, Sam rarely gives interviews and avoids social media. But one thing he doesn’t seem to mind sharing is how he feels about Janet. In a message to her posted on his official website, Sam gushed: ‘To the most beautiful person in the world. Thank you for your divine love, your eternal support and for being my best friend.’
