Poor Jade can't even rest in peace as the backlash begins
Tragic Jade Goody has been buried less than a fortnight and already the criticism has started.
In the week that her heartbroken mum Jackiey Budden, 51, was seen reading the Bible by her graveside in Epping Forest, Essex, legendary chat show host Michael Parkinson launched a surprise attack on the Jade phenomenon.
‘Her death is as sad as the death of any young person, but it’s not the passing of a martyr or a saint or, God help us, Princess Di. When we clear the media smokescreen from around her death, what we’re left with is a woman who came to represent all that’s paltry and wretched about Britain today,’ said Michael, 74.
‘She was brought up on a sink estate, as a child came to know both drugs and crime, was barely educated, ignorant and puerile,’ he added.
Jade’s grandmother Sylvia Caddock, 76, responded to Michael’s comments. ‘I’d love to give him a piece of my mind,’ she said. ‘I’d love to wring his neck.’
Thousands of fans have paid tribute to Jade, but some cruel internet users have posted abusive comments about the reality star, who divided public opinion after her racist bullying on Celebrity Big Brother in January 2007.
One tasteless website isjade goodydeadyet.com was set up to count down her dying days. It now says: ‘Yes! Ding dong the witch is dead!’
