Luis Vielma worked on the Harry Potter ride at Universal Studios
JK Rowling has paid a sad tribute to one of the victims of Sunday’s mass shooting in Orlando, saying she couldn’t ‘stop crying’ over the news.
Luis Vielma, who worked on the Harry Potter ride at local theme park Universal Studios, was amongst the 50 people killed when a gunman opened fire in a packed nightclub.
Taking to Twitter to honour Luis, the Harry Potter author wrote: ‘Luis Vielma worked on the Harry Potter ride at Universal. He was 22 years old. I can’t stop crying. #Orlando‘
The writer also shared a picture of the Potter fan, which showed him giving the thumbs up dressed in his work uniform, complete with a Gryffindor tie.
A friend of Luis’s saw the message and replied to Rowling, revealing how he ‘loved’ working on the attraction.
He wrote: ‘Thank You for this. Luis Vielma loved every bit of working at the harry potter ride. He brought smiles to every one he met.’
Rowling then replied: ‘I’m so, so sorry. My heart goes out to you, all his friends and his poor family.’
The Fantastic Beasts writer is just one of a host of stars to pay tribute to the victims of this weekend’s attack at LGBT hotspot Pulse nightclub, in which gunman Omar Mateen also injured 53 people. He was killed by police after taking hostages in the club.
Singer John Legend posted on Twitter: ‘Horrified by the mass shooting in Orlando. When will we do something to prevent these killing sprees?’
Arianna Grande added: ‘So. Much. Violence. It hurts my heart. Sending as much Light and love as I possibly can to anyone and everyone I can possibly reach.’
Liam Payne’s girlfriend Cheryl posted: ‘What is wrong with the world 😞 so incredibly sad. Prayers to the victims and loved ones 🙏
Meanwhile, Ellen DeGeneres simply wrote: ‘Sobbing.’
