An emotional Katie Price admits on a revealing new TV show that she won’t seek respite care for disabled son Harvey
Katie Price has opened up about her feelings of guilt over caring for disabled son Harvey in a highly emotional new TV interview.
The mum-of-five breaks down during an intimate chat with Dr Claudia Bernat in upcoming documentary Katie Price: In Therapy and confesses that she’d feel guilty if she sought extra care for Harvey, 13, who suffers from a series of disabilities including blindness, autism, ADHD and Prader-Willi syndrome.
‘I won’t do respite with him yet, because I don’t want to feel like I’m letting him down,’ says Katie, 37.
‘By letting him go, while I go and have fun with the others.’
Emotions run high in the chat and Katie – who had Harvey with footballer Dwight Yorke – cries as she admits: ‘I don’t want to leave him.’
Katie explains that it’s a difficult balance though because she worries that, through having to devote so much time to looking after Harvey, her four other children are missing out on her attention.
The TV star has son Junior, 10, and daughter Princess, 8, from her marriage to Peter Andre as well as babies Jett, 2, and Bunny, 1, with husband Kieran Hayler, so she’s got a lot on her plate.
Katie gives an example of the difficulties of sharing her time between the kids when she reveals how Junior will ask her to watch him play football but she won’t be able to go if Harvey doesn’t want to.
‘Junior understands. Harvey would smash the car up because he didn’t want to go but then I don’t want to leave Harvey with someone,’ the former glamour model says.
The show looks set to be very emotional viewing, with Katie undergoing a month-long psychological evaluation by Dr Bernat.
As well as discussing her life as a mum, Katie also opens up about some very personal topics such as the breakdown of her relationship with first husband Pete and her feelings towards Jane Pountney, her former friend who had an affair with Katie’s hubby Kieran.
Katie Price: In Therapy airs on Friday 21 August at 9pm on Channel 5.
