New mum Keira Knightley opens up about how she’s finding life as a parent
Keira Knightley might have given birth several months ago but we’ve not had an inkling of her baby girl’s name – until now.
The actress, 30, has finally spoken about the arrival of her daughter – her first child with husband James Righton – and revealed that the little one’s name is Edie. Awww!
Keira has also been searingly honest about what motherhood is like in an interview with US Elle magazine, even going so far as to admit that some parts of being a parent are really not nice.
‘The love thing is astonishing. It’s a very primal, primal love,’ says Keira. ‘That’s quite extraordinary.
‘And the ability to have no sleep and continue going. It’s not pleasant – I never thought that I could actually do it for the amount of time that I’ve done it.’
We’re sure all the exhausted new mums out there are with you on that one, Keira!
Luckily there are have been many positives to balance out the sleep deprivation. Becoming a mother has been a transformative experience for Keira as she thinks that it’s actually given her a much better body image.
‘I have to say, as a woman, you hate certain parts of your body,’ the award-winning star explains.
‘You go through those periods where you look in the mirror and you think, Oh, if only I had different legs or arms or whatever.
‘You go through pregnancy and labour and then feeding the kid and you go, Wow, my body is totally amazing, and I’m never going to not like it again, because it did this, and this is f**king extraordinary.’
We couldn’t agree with you more, Ms Knightley!
Keira has clearly come a long way over the years. The actress – who shot to fame as a teenager in the early 2000s – has got a much better sense of self now that she’s in her 30s.
‘It took me a lot of years to try and stop pleasing a lot of people and allow myself to have fun,’ the mum-of-one says.
‘It’s the difficult thing of getting out of your own head.’
Motherhood definitely suits you, Keira.
