Former TOWIE star Lauren Goodger shares her view on Ricky Rayment and Marnie Simpson's whirlwind engagement

Reality TV lovebirds Marnie Simpson and Ricky Rayment surprised everyone last week by getting engaged after a six-month whirlwind romance – but Lauren Goodger has only nice words for the loved-up couple.

Lauren describes Geordie Shore star Marnie as a ‘good match’ for former TOWIE star Ricky – who left the show ‘by mutual agreement’ earlier this year after his two-year relationship with Jess Wright soured in November.

Ricky and Marnie only met (and snogged!) at the National Television Awards in January, but Lauren doesn’t see their short relationship as a problem.

She write in her New magazine column: ‘Some people will say it’s too soon, but it’s up to them. Ricky was in a long-term relationship but it didn’t work out, so good luck to them.’

She adds: ‘He’s probably found his match in Marnie – they seem to love partying together!’

Ricky popped the question three weeks ago on a visit to the Geordie Shore house in Newcastle, and Marnie ‘immediately said yes’, according to friends of the couple.

But Lauren – who was in a relationship with first love Mark Wright for ten years – had some words of advice for the newly-engaged couple.

She writes: ‘Just because they’re engaged doesn’t mean they have to get married straight away, though. It’s probably a show of commitment.’

And she could be on to something. Speaking exclusively to Now back in March, Ricky admitted 23-year-old Marnie was ‘the one’ and that the pair had discussed marriage and kids.

But Marnie revealed: ‘Obviously it’s really early for that and we’re too young right now, but we’ve spoken about it.’

So maybe we’ll have to wait a while before we celebrate Ricky and Marnie’s big day – but we’ll dust off our fascinators anyway, just in case.
