Lea Michele took to Twitter to share a photo and some sweet words two years after the death of her boyfriend and former Glee co-star Cory Monteith
It’s two years today (Monday 13 July) since Glee star Cory Monteith‘s death, and Lea Michele has marked the anniversary with a touching message.
Posting on Twitter, the 28-year-old star wrote:
She attached a beautiful picture of her former boyfriend, showing him driving a car with sunlight streaming through the window.
Within an hour, Lea’s touching tribute had been favourited over 17,000 times, with fans tweeting their messages of support to the singer.
One wrote: ‘I love you so much Lea, Cory would be so proud of you. You’re so strong & I’m so blessed to have you as my role model.’
Another added, ‘He’ll always have a place in our hearts,‘ whilst another simply said: ‘My heart just smiled but broke at the same time.’
Actor Cory was tragically found dead in his hotel room in Vancouver, Canada two years ago.
An autopsy showed that he died from a ‘mixed drug toxicity’ resulting from a heroin and alcohol overdose in what the British Columbia Coroners Service called a ‘most tragic accident’.
The 31 year old had spent time in rehab for substance abuse earlier that year, and previously admitted that he first received treatment for alcohol addiction at the age of 19.
In the months that followed Cory’s death, Lea penned songs, shared personal snaps and even reportedly turned to a psychic to help her cope with the loss of her boyfriend.
She found love once again with model Matthew Paetz, who she’s been dating since June last year.
‘Matthew, thank you for bringing such happiness into my life,’ the If You Say So singer wrote in May. ‘For making me smile again and bringing such a bright joy into my every day…Thank you for loving me and my family…And of course Sheila too…May this be the happiest Birthday ever!’
But finding love again hasn’t stopped Lea keeping Cory’s memory alive.
In May this year she also marked what would have been his 33rd birthday with a tweet that read: ‘I know you’re serenading everyone right now.. We love you Cory! Happy Birthday.’
