Star bonds with an African toddler called Davie

After weeks of speculation, it seems Madonna has finally picked an African baby to take home – a 13-month-old boy called David Banda.

His father said last night that the star had chosen the toddler, whose mother died a week after giving birth.

Yohane Banda, a 32-year old farmer who lives in a mud hut, was forced to put his son into an orphange because he could not look after him alone.

‘I’m very happy,’ he told The Sun last night. ‘As you can see there is poverty in this village. I know he will be very happy. We are told David will be coming back regularly to know his roots.’

The 48-year old singer and husband Guy Ritchie were charmed by the little boy during visits last week to the Home For Hope orphanage in Malawi.

A source said: ‘Madonna was shown a number of pictures of boys at the orphanage but fell for Davie. She carried him on her back, which was very symbolic as that is the way Malawian mothers carry their children.’

Her spokesman was not available for comment.
