TOWIE star Mario Falcone finally breaks his silence over break-up
When TOWIE ‘bad boy’ Mario Falcone poured his heart out to Now three months ago, he made a shocking confession: he’d been battling depression after being branded a cheat and was struggling to cope with abuse on Twitter.
Girlfriend Lucy Mecklenburgh, 21, stood by him and supported him through his mental health problems – but the couple split up in early April.
Then things turned sour when Lucy discovered Mario, 25, had been chatting to another girl just one week later.
Yet both have since remained tight-lipped on the real reason they ended their relationship – until now.
Unfounded rumours were rife that Mario had done something terrible after Lucy hinted at a dark reason for the split, saying: ‘What he did was worse than cheating.’
So what really happened?
‘I didn’t ever want to talk about this because it’s not nice,’ Mario tells us in our exclusive interview.
‘And I didn’t want my family or friends to know.
‘The only people who know what happened are my mum, my best mate Miller and my manager – but Lucy‘s been talking about this “big, dark secret”.
‘It’s made people think I’ve done horrible things to her when I haven’t.
‘I might as well tell you the whole truth.
‘I tried to end my own life.
‘I took an overdose of 40 horrendously strong painkillers that I’d got on holiday earlier this year and washed them down with half a bottle of champagne.
’I fell asleep and woke up at 5am being violently sick.
‘I can’t remember much, only that I was relieved when I woke up because I realised how f***ing stupid I’d been.’
Mario and Lucy had been living apart after he’d been accused of cheating on herwith Sugar Hut Honey twins Amy and Sally Broadbent.
‘I didn’t cheat on her with them but I couldn’t prove it,’ says Mario.
‘So I thought: ‘F*** this, what’s the use?’
