Well done Max!
Max Whitlock became a hero in the eyes of the nation on Sunday night (14th August), as he became an Olympic Champion in Rio TWICE in the space of an hour.
After scoring the top prize in the individual floor exercise, he then got a gold medal in the individual gold soon after, beating team-mate Louis Smith to the title! Max has received an influx of support and congratulations from tens of thousands of viewers from Great Britain and beyond.
And now, he’s gotten the sweetest praise of all – a lovely message from his fiancée, Leah Hickton. Aww!
Leah, also a gymnast, tweeted a message about the 23-year-old’s success on Monday morning, and it’s clear that she couldn’t be prouder of how well her other half has fared.
The heartfelt caption read: ‘U did it @maxwhitlock1 – Olympic champion not once but Twice! DOUBLE OLYMPIC CHAMPION – a dream come true. I love u’.
A lovely message! The childhood sweethearts are reported to have met around the tender age of 14, after they met at a gym club and became better acquainted at a gymnastics summer camp.
Though she’s represented Team GBR at worldwide events as a gymnastics teacher, she’s stayed a constant support for him for years – including when he picked up two bronze medals at London’s games in 2012.
Max and Leah, 24, got engaged back in June, after nearly nine years of dating, when Max popped the big question during a break in the Lake District.
Max’s gold medals follow a bronze medal earlier on in the tournament, in the All-Round gymnastics event. Very impressive stuff – congratulations, Max!
