Mel Gibson escapes jail after drink-driving incident and agrees to get help

Mel Gibson escaped jail yesterday after admitting drink-driving.

Instead the actor has been ordered to attend AA meetings five times a week and pay a £700 fine.

And he’s agreed to film TV ads about the dangers of drink-driving and go into rehab.

The 45-year-old Hollywood star was arrested while speeding in Malibu last month. But when he appeared in court yesterday no mention was made of the anti-Semitic remarks he is alleged to have made to a police officer at the time.

Gibson’s comments caused a huge backlash and the ABC network dropped a series the actor was due to make about the Holocaust.
