Legendary actor Morgan Freeman mourns the loss of E’Dena Hines who has shockingly been killed aged 33

The beloved step-granddaughter of Morgan Freeman has been stabbed to death on a street in New York over the weekend.

E’Dena Hines, who was just 33 years old, was found with multiple stab wounds to the chest outside her home on Manhattan’s West 162nd Street in the early hours of the morning.

She was taken to hospital in Harlem where she was sadly pronounced dead.

It’s been confirmed by New York Police Department that a 30-year-old man was taken into custody at the scene and several reports suggest that he was E’Dena’s boyfriend.

Iconic actor Morgan, 78, was very close to E’Dena and has spoken of his sadness over her shocking death.

‘The world will never know her artistry in talent, and how much she had to offer,’ he said in a statement.

‘Her friends and family were fortunate enough to have known what she meant as a person. Her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace.’

Morgan was not directly related to E’Dena as they were linked by the fact that his first wife was E’Dena’s grandmother Jeanette but the two shared a close bond.

E’Dena would often accompany her step-grandfather on the red carpet and in 2012 Morgan even had to deny that he was in a romantic relationship with her after rumours that they’d been an item for ten years, allegations that he branded ‘alarming’.

Since the news of her death broke Morgan has thanked fans for their support via his official Facebook page.

‘I want to acknowledge the tremendous outpouring of love and support my family has received regarding the tragic and senseless passing of my granddaughter Edena Hines,’ the actor wrote.

‘Thank you from the bottom of my heart. -M’

Like Morgan, E’Dena was passionate about the arts. She studied acting and was involved with teaching underprivileged youths.

The investigation into her death continues.
