Royals face backlash over spending

Kate Middleton and Prince William have spent over £1million doing up their new home, it’s been revealed.

Pregnant Kate, 31, is due to give birth to her first child next month and no expense has been spared in baby-proofing Kensington Palace Apartment 1A, where they’ll move to this autumn.

Buckingham Palace’s annual accounts show that £33.3million was spent on the royals during the Diamond Jubilee year.

And Graham Smith, chief executive of pressure group, believes the Royal Family should be cutting back in these hard times.

The Queen has taken over £1million of public money and used it to do up her grandson’s flat,’ Graham tells the Daily Mirror.

If a minister did that they would quite rightly be sacked.

As Britons face deep cuts to public services and struggle with rising prices, the royals continue to help themselves to our money.

As everyone else is seeing cuts to services and jobs it is unbelievable that our head of state will sit silently by as she is handed millions more in public money.’
