It sounds like a certain member of One Direction will follow in Simon Cowell’s footsteps…

As One Direction fans slowly come to terms with news of the boy’s hiatus, Simon Cowell has just hinted at a VERY exciting new career for one member of the band.

The music mogul, 55, thinks that Louis Tomlinson could follow in his footsteps and set up his own record label – exciting stuff!

‘I know Louis wants to be an A&R guy, run a label,’ says Simon.

‘He was always going to be good at that.’

As for Harry Styles, Liam Payne and Niall Horan, Simon admits he’s not quite so sure what they’ve got lined up for when the lads take a break next year.

‘I haven’t gone into too much detail with the others,’ the dad-of-one confesses.

Simon is totally supportive of 1D’s decision to have a breather though, having said: ‘This has been going on for quite a long time actually, they always said 2016 they wanted to take some time off and I said 100% do it.

‘This is 5 years, literally non-stop. I’m amazed they’ve done it for so long.’

Simon made the revelations during a chat on Capital FM with fellow X Factor judge Cheryl and, given the many years she spent working with Girls Aloud, Chezza totally understands why the boys want a break too.

‘When you’re in a group for that long it’s so intense – you need it,’ the 32-year-old says.

‘It’s super important to take time off before they do solo projects.’

Cheryl has got some ideas of her own for what the lads might do next as she’s tipped Liam for songwriting stardom.

Ms Fernandez-Versini thinks he’s ‘really good’ at creating tunes and could do well at it in the future.

‘He wrote a track on my last album,’ she explains. ‘So I think you’ll see different things from all of them.’

Eek! We can’t wait to see if Simon and Cheryl’s predictions come true…
