Orange Is The New Black star Laura Prepon opens up about her dangerous battle to stay thin

It’s understandable that being in the public eye will come with a pressure to always look good, and so it’s obviously no surprise that celebrities will try to stay trim and looking their best.

However mission look-your-best-at-all-times shouldn’t ever be dangerous, and unfortunately lot of celebrity diets are. Orange Is The New Black star Laura Prepon, who plays inmate Alex Vause, has opened up about the extreme measures she underwent to achieve her slim figure.

‘I’ve always done crazy crash diets,’ Laura explained. ‘I’ve ruined my metabolism that way. I did the HCG diet- you’re injected with a hormone thats extracted from the urine of pregnant women’.

Promised to completely ‘reset your metabolism’ by speeding it up and breaking down the body’s stored fat,  the HCG diet is a daily 500 calorie intake restriction accompanied with the daily injection of the hormone HCG. The hormone is found naturally in the body during pregnancy and is extracted from urine for this process. That’s right… urine.

Although the diet promises to allow the body to ‘lose as much as a pound a day without feeling hungry or weak’, the 500-calorie-a-day means it is impossible to meet all the body’s nutritional needs on such a small number. Our expert and personal trainer Ollie Frost says ‘Leaving aside injecting yourself with hormones, 500 calories is far too little food to be consuming on a daily basis’.

And in fact it seems the entire diet is a fad, as there is actually no scientific evidence that HCG is effective in combating weight loss. In fact, being on such a low intake of calories a day will not only slow your metabolism as your body could go into starvation mode, the exact opposite of the expected outcome of the diet. Any weight lost through the diet is most likely to be due to the dietary requirements and not the hormone injections.

Last year Women’s Health reported that ‘HCG injections have been associated with headaches, blood clots, leg cramps, temporary hair thinning, constipation, and breast tenderness’ so not only are they unnecessary but also potentially dangerous.

We’re glad you’ve put down the injections Laura!

Wa-hoo! Orange Is The New Black is back on today! See what the stars look like out of their jailbird clothes

Please pass on the HCG injections.

There is no way that injecting yourself with hormones can be helpful.
the number 1 key is finding a fitness routine and diet that WORKS for you. . There are also so many weight loss solutions, it’s seriously overwhelming. I’ve created a website called Lose Weight With John Mark to tackle some of the more popular solutions online…I’ve put in the time and research and have given my honest opinions. It’s not easy, but it’s not impossible. Check out my review of The 3 Week Diet , which legitimately is an amazing weight loss solution

  • I know what it feels like, and it must be even harder for celebrities who are always in the public eye. Imagine, somebody like Laura, who has access to the best personal trainers, chefs and nutritionists that money can be, and she still has problems with her weight? It’s not easy at all. I really believe that it’s mostly mental, and I can only speak for what worked with me. Once I started eating much better, the cravings and the intense hunger I used to feel, I dunno, they just stopped. It’s hard, though. I guess it’s like quitting smoking. You know it’s best to quit, you know about all health benefits, but it’s still really hard to quit, ya know?

What ended up working the best for me was a program I reviewed on our site. Maybe because it’s geared towards women, I dunno, but it really tackled the mental part of dieting for me and that’s what mattered the most to me. Controlling the intense hunger and that emotional need to almost stuff myself was what really finally worked in getting me to lose my weight.

This article is complete nonsense and a grab for attention. Any writer that can’t even get the subject’s name correct (her name is LAURA) is clearly totally incompetent at what they do.
