A look at the stars who've got it so right and so wrong on the red carpet at the Academy Awards over the years...

It’s pretty much the highlight of our year when we get to see all the outfits on the Oscars red carpet.

Each year, stars don their finery as they pose in front of the cameras at the annual Academy Awards.

Ever since the early days of the glitzy ceremony, celebs have been donning super-glam garb we’re TOTALLY in awe of.

Take Audrey Hepburn, who’s the first beauty in our gallery. Simple yet forever chic, her belted floral tea dress sums up the 50s perfectly.

It was designed by Audrey’s close friend, fashion designer Hubert de Givenchy, and fits her gamine frame to perfection.

Our 70s style icon is Raquel Welch, who stuns in a plunging spaghetti strap dress in 1971.

The 80s sees Meryl Streep wowing in a glittery gold maternity maxi while the purple silk-knit dress that Cate Blanchett wears in 1999 is the epitome of enchanting elegance.

In more recent times, ladies including Kate Hudson, Anne Hathaway, Nicole Kidman, Michelle Williams and Hilary Swank have made us swoon with their stunning ensembles.

However (eek!), there have been a few celebs who’ve got it wrong over the years.

Some of these VIPs have been let down by their era. Let’s admit, there were A LOT of dodgy outfits going on in the 80s and 90s.

Sorry Jacqueline Bisset, Kim Basinger, Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon!

But others are just plain unforgivable. We’re looking at YOU Mariah Carey – her 2010 gown shows way too much cleavage for such a prestigious event.

Tilda Swinton, Naomi Watts and Uma Thurman have also made fashion errors in the past. And who can forget Gwyneth Paltrow’s see-through top (and saggy boobs) in 2002?!

A special mention has to go out to Cher, who has two outfits in our worst dressed selection. We’re not sure what’s worse, the feather headdress or the overly-revealing catsuit.
