As model Candice Swanepoel falls over on the Givenchy catwalk during New York Fashion Week, we look at other models who've taken a runway tumble

We imagine Candice Swanepoel has couple of bruised knees – and a bruised ego to match – right about now after taking a tumble on the opening day of New York Fashion Week.

The Victoria’s Secret model walked away with cuts to her legs after going down hard as she strutted her stuff on the Givenchy runway last Friday.

Ever the professional, Candice got right on up and finished the show, shrugging off the incident with a sheepish smile.

But we reckon her tumble will be remembered for years to come – if the still-talked-about experiences of her fellow runway fallers is anything to go by…

Supermodel Naomi Campbell can lay claim to perhaps the most famous tumble of all: the moment she fell off Vivienne Westwood’s nice-inch platform heels during the designer’s Autumn/Winter ’93 show is now the stuff of catwalk legend.

And it’s not just Naomi who’s fallen foul of vertiginous footwear – perilous pairs of shoes have been the cause of many of model’s downfall.

Not one but TWO models ended up on their backsides during the Prada Spring/Summer 2009 show thanks designer Muccia Prada’s particularly high heels.

Meanwhile, Agyness Deyn and Alek Wek are amongst the other famous name to go down mid-show.

Henry Holland’s BFF hit the deck during the Fashion For Relief in support of Haiti show in 2010, whilst Alek took a tumble during the Z Spoke by Zac Posen Spring 2011 show.

And who can forget that memorable scene in Sex and the City where Carrie takes to the runway, only to end up face down on the floor as Heidi Klum steps over her and GBF Stanford exclaims, ‘Oh my god, she’s fashion roadkill!’

Yes, we know it wasn’t real, but we still flinch for Sarah Jessica Parker‘s knees every time we watch that episode!
