As Peter Andre is revealed to be joining Strictly Come Dancing, there may be one person who isn’t popping open the champers…
It’s shaping up to be quite a year for Peter Andre. First he gets married to his long-term love Emily MacDonagh, then he lands a swanky new record deal and now he’s going to be a contestant on the next series of Strictly Come Dancing. Pete, 42, revealed he’d actually previously been asked to take part in the show but his work commitments meant he had to turn it down. But not this time!
Peter announced the news last week, saying: ‘Strictly Come Dancing’s an incredible show. I’ve always loved watching it on TV and to be honest I’m flattered to have been asked to take part before, but due to certain work commitments was unable to. I now feel the time’s right to give it a go. Everything’s just clicked into place to do it this year. Wish me luck please… argh!’
Pete isn’t the only one gushing about his new gig. Fans took to Twitter to express their delight
– and even professional dancer Brendan Cole hit social media to welcome Pete to the Strictly family. Brendan, 39, Tweeted: ‘Shut Ya Face… It’s only Peter Andre doing Strictly Come Dancing. Awesome news BBC. You’re gonna love it Peter!’
But there might be one person who won’t be taking to any of their social media accounts to congratulate him – step forward Peter’s ex-wife Katie Price. Just months ago, the 37-year-old admitted she’d enjoy waltzing her way to holding the famous glitterball herself, saying: ‘I’d love to do the show, but they’ve never asked! So I’ll stir the pot and say: “If it’s true, give me a call!”’.
So has Pete stolen Katie’s big dancing dream? A source says: ‘Katie will be alright. It won’t
stop her watching Strictly, although yes, she’ll naturally be a bit put out. But I’m sure she’ll get over it and will end up watching the show. Their kids [Junior, 10, and Princess, eight] will definitely want to see their dad performing on TV.’
Ironically, it wasn’t long ago that Katie was set to join Australia’s version of the show Dancing With The Stars – but had to pull out due to a clash with work commitments. ‘Everyone thought she was going to Australia to do Big Brother but it was actually Dancing With The Stars,’ a source exclusively told Now at the time. ‘Katie’s really popular down under, but she has a really busy summer coming up and decided it just wouldn’t work out with her schedule.’
Pete’s never made any secret of the fact that he wanted to try out his fancy footwork on Strictly. Back in June, he described it as ‘one of the best shows on telly’ and revealed that he’d be ‘keen to give it a go when the time is right’. But it’s safe to say he’ll be feeling slightly apprehensive about the costumes – Strictly clothes aren’t exactly known for being demure. ‘I’m not sure I’d be able to pull off the Lycra outfits and sequins!’ he’s previously admitted.
Oh, come on, Pete – if you can pull off the curtain hairstyle in the 90s, Lycra should be easy!
