Jack Ryder - AKA our major EastEnders crush circa 1999 - has changed a lot since he was on the BBC soap!
Back in the late 90s, we had a massive thing for boys with THAT floppy curtains hairstyle. You know the one we mean, perfectly modelled by the likes of Backstreet Boy Nick Carter, Leonardo DiCaprio in Romeo and Juliet – and, of course, Jack Ryder from EastEnders.
Well, fast forward almost 20 years and it’s all change for the actor who found fame as Jamie Mitchell in the BBC soap – as a new snap shared by his pal and fellow ‘Enders actor Dean Gaffney shows!
Long gone are the blonde locks and baby-faced looks that helped Jack achieve heartthrob status. Instead, they’ve been replaced by a rather distinguished glasses-wearing, stubble-sporting chap who we’ll admit we barely recognised!
And it looks as though Dean couldn’t help but notice how much his former cast mate has changed, captioning the shot: ‘Wow what a change… Love this guy … But how many of you will know who this is…..’
He gave a helpful hint by adding the hashtag ‘#ryder’ – and it didn’t take long for fans to cotton on.
‘Wowww hes changed!!!’ one posted
Another added: ‘Still looking hot Jack. Xxxx’
Jack played character Jamie Mitchell in EastEnders from 1998 to 2002, with his on-off relationship with Sonia Jackson – played by Natalie Cassidy – winning him many fans.
However, all did not end well for young Jamie, with viewers watching in tears as he died on Christmas Day 2002 after being run over by Martin Fowler.
In his personal life, Jack married former Hear’Say star Kym Marsh in 2002, but the couple were plagued with problems and they eventually spit in 2008.
Jack’s now set to return to our screens with a role in the second series of BBC drama series In The Club, starring Will Mellor, which is due to air in May.
We look forward to seeing you again, Jack!
