A new documentary is set to be released - filmed when Russell Brand and Katy Perry were still married - and it could be about to make things even more awkward between the two...
We all know Russell Brand and Katy Perry‘s whirlwind marriage didn’t end well. He dumped her by text on New Years Eve! But old bitterness could be revived on Friday when a new documentary Brand: The Second Coming is released.
Filmed in 2010, Russell, 40, is seen going on a rant about the world of celebrity, and reports are claiming the outburst was aimed at his then wife, Katy.
Speaking on camera Russell admits his feelings for Katy, 31, changed after he took a trip to Africa for Comic Relief.
He said: ‘The stuff in Africa hit me really hard. I’m associated with the very thing I detest: vapid, vacuous, plastic, constructed, mindless celebrity.’
On life as Katy’s husband, he added: ‘That’s the very sea we’re swimming in. ‘Oh, who’s he? He’s married to Katy Perry’.
The film, directed by Ondi Timoner, is out in cinemas from Friday but Russell is not happy about it’s release. He has said the whole thing is ‘intrusive, melancholy … painful and sad’.
He urged pals interviewed in the documentary to boycott the premiere after a bust-up with the director, Ondi.
Ondi, however, said: ‘He asked me and wooed me into making this film but then didn’t like being documented.
‘He knew he needed to finish this film somehow, he needed to let go, so he gave over creative control to me but when it came down to it, he couldn’t deal with it.’
Thankfully, while Russell may not be happy about it, Katy seems to be having the time of her life at the moment.
The singer has been travelling the world, living it up with her mates, and hanging out with Hilary Clinton of late. As you do.
And for the record, Katy, we think you’re just lovely!
