Rumour has it that Ryan Thomas, better known as Jason Grimshaw in Coronation Street, could be going stateside

Ryan Thomas has announced that he’s QUITTING Coronation Street after 15 years on the show – and is reportedly going to try his luck in Hollywood.

Whatever happened to the old Corrie cast?

The 31-year-old actor joined Corrie way back in 2000 as Jason Grimshaw but has decided that the time is right to move on.

‘It has been a great privilege to be in Coronation Street for the past 15 years,’ says Ryan.
‘The cast and crew are amongst the best in the business and to have had the chance to be a part of it for so long has been an amazing experience.

‘The decision to leave was an extremely difficult one but I felt that now was the right time to spread my wings and try other roles.’

‘I’m just excited now to see what exit storyline the writers give Jason.’

Producer Stuart Blackburn has promised Corrie fans an exciting departure for Jason, involving his family as well as the Websters and the Windasses – ooh, sounds intriguing!

Ryan’s final scenes will be shown next year – but will he still be in the country to watch them? According to reports the Manchester-born star hopes to kickstart a movie career in the US.

The actor – who has a 6-year-old daughter, Scarlett, with his Corrie star ex-girlfriend Tina O’Brien – recently spoke of his film star dreams at the Pride Of Britain Awards.

‘Going to Hollywood is a dream so I’m going to see what happens,’ he told the Mirror.

‘We can always dream. I’ve been on the show for 15 years now, I always pinch myself, I’m blessed.’

Ryan wouldn’t be the first soap star to try and build a movie career – will he follow in the footsteps of THESE famous names?

Martine McCutcheon

Oh how we sobbed when Martine’s lovable EastEnders alter ego Tiffany Mitchell was killed off at Christmas in 1998. Tiff’s death allowed Martine to spread her wings though and, after a brief music career, she famously appeared in the Hollywood hit Love Actually in 2003.

Robert Kazinsky

Remember when Rob was bad boy Sean Slater in EastEnders? Since exiting Albert Square in 2009 the actor has been a hit in the US, having starred in True Blood and the Reese Witherspoon film Hot Pursuit.

Anna Friel

She made her name on Brookside but Anna is better known for her successful film career these days. The actress from Rochdale also recently starred in the gripping drama series American Odyssey.

Ricky Whittle

We all swooned over Ricky when he was Calvin Valentine in Hollyoaks (and then sobbed when his character was killed by Theresa McQueen). Nowadays Ricky can be found in hit TV show The 100 and he’s also got some movie roles lined up.

Michelle Keegan?

After bowing out of Corrie last year, Michelle has been open about visiting America for meetings but is keeping schtum about what the future holds – could she be heading for the bright lights of Hollywood?
